Pokémon Scarlet & Violet’s Normal-type Gym leader, Larry, is a stunningly accurate everyman with low self-esteem and a bone to pick with his boss. His pent-up frustration shines through in his Pokémon’s powerful physical moves, so you’ll need to play smart or be knocked out. Here’s our best advice if you need help challenging Medali’s Gym.
How to beat the Normal Gym Leader Larry in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet
Larry will use three Pokémon to face you: a level 35 Komala, a level 35 Dudunsparce, and a level 36 Staraptor that will use a Normal-type Tera Form when it enters the battle. The first two Pokémon shouldn’t give you much trouble, but Larry’s final Pokémon, Staraptor, will hit you hard with Facade. It’s a Normal-type move that increases in power if Staraptor is afflicted by status ailments, so be careful not to accidentally give this Pokémon an advantage.
Good Pokémon to use for this fight include Fighting-type Pokémon, as they have an offensive advantage against Normal-types. Pawmot or Quaquaval, if you chose Quaxley for your starter, work well for this. Although, there are plenty of other Fighting-type Pokémon for you to choose from. If you want to be more defensive, add Steel-type or Rock-type Pokémon to your party, as Normal-type moves will be less effective against them.
What is the Treasure Eatery Secret Menu Item in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet?
Before you can challenge Larry, Medali’s Gym in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet will require you to order a secret menu item from the best restaurant in town, Treasure Eatery. It’s the largest restaurant nearby the first location on the map above. To find out what the secret menu item is, you’ll need to defeat three Normal-type gym trainers around the city at the locations marked above. They’ll give you clues, as well as an inconspicuous man in a black suit sitting at the counter of Treasure Eatery.
If you want to skip the battles rather than gain experience, here is what you need to order from the waiter in green at the front of the restaurant: Grilled rice balls, Medium Serving, Fire Blast Style, with Lemon.
