The first stop on your way to Victory Road in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet (by level) is the Cortondo Gym. Katy, the Bug-type leader with a knack for baking pastries, leads it. Bug-type Pokémon are traditionally squishy but don’t underestimate her as a gym leader. Here is what you need to know to challenge and defeat Katy in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet.

How to beat the Bug Gym Leader Katy in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet

Katy has three Pokemon: a level 14 Nymble, a level 14 Tarountula, and a level 15 Teddiursa. Katy’s Teddiursa will become a Bug Tera-type once it enters the battle. Because you are facing all Bug-types, using flying or fire-type Pokémon, such as Fletchling or Fletchinder, will carry you through this battle with ease.

How to complete the Olive Roll test in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet

Before you can challenge Katy, you’ll have to pass Cortondo Gym’s test, the Olive Roll. To start the test, talk to the receptionist in Cortondo Gym, then the NPC located at the front of the olive field indicated on the map above. To complete the challenge, you’ll need to run up to the gigantic olive to push it around the field to the red wicker basket at the end. You can push it over the green bumps or take shortcuts if you defeat gym trainers. They each have one Pokémon that are both Bug-type. They should be no match for you if you are ready to challenge Katy. Once you’ve completed the Olive Roll test, you’ll be able to challenge Katy by talking to the receptionist inside the gym again.
