In an unexpected twist, the old man who has been serving you potato mochi all this time is a member of the Galaxy Expedition Team! He’s even Commander Kamado’s right hand man. And, also unexpectedly, Beni’s a very formidable Pokémon trainer. Here’s how to beat him.

If you want to beat Beni, you have to be aware of the Pokémon he owns and ensure that your own team isn’t at a disadvantage. Levels don’t matter in this fight. Super effective moves do a lot of damage in Legends, so if you’re not careful, you’re going to get hurt a lot.

Beni’s team is made up of very a high-leveled Mismagius, Gardevoir, Gallade, and Sneasler. He won’t bring them out in that order, but he will bring out Mismagius first.

How to beat Mismagius

Mismagius is only super effective against Psychic and Ghost… or so you think. It knows Psychic moves as well, so don’t send fighting types like Decidueye out. Plus, it’s Sp. Attack and Speed are pretty high in general, so it will do some substantial damage anyway.

Do not hit it with any special attacks. Mismagius’ true weak point is its low Defense. If you want to beat it, you have to send out a physical attacker like Flareon.

How to beat Gardevoir and Gallade

Gardevoir, much like Mismagius, has a paper-thin Defense. Send out a physical attacker. And unlike Mismagius, you can outspeed her pretty easily.

The only problem you might encounter with Gardevoir is when Beni sends her out after a previous Pokémon is defeated. Due to Legends’ turn order rule, Gardevoir can potentially get a free first turn if your previous move knocks your Pokémon low enough into the turn order. Don’t panic if this happens. Just send out a Pokémon that can beat it. And while Ghost, Poison, and Steel will work on her best, any Pokémon with high Attack can beat it, as mentioned.

Much like Gardevoir, Gallade has a very low Defense stat. Remember to only hit it with physical moves. It’s a little faster than Gardevoir but still pretty slow, so your Gardevoir strategy will also work on it. Gallade is weak to Ghost, Flying, and Fairy.

How to beat Sneasler

Finally, there’s Sneasler. Sneasler is very, very fast. If you send out a slow Pokémon like Umbreon, it can hit you as many as four times in a row. Plus, its Attack is higher than its Speed. It will very likely defeat at least one Pokémon in your team, and that’s okay. Just send out your next able Pokémon and it will likely overtake Sneasler in the turn order.

Sneasler is fast but defenseless. Either special or physical moves will beat it. In particular, it’s double weak to Psychic and weak to Ground and Flying. However, Sneasler has six resistances: Fighting, Poison, Grass, Dark, Rock, and Bug. Do not attack it with moves of this type.

Pokémon Legends: Arceus is not a game where you can bulldoze through battles with an overleveled starter. You need to play it smart and fight with the right team. Beni is beatable, even though it feels like the opposite.

The next hurdle to your journey towards the Temple of Sinnoh is Commander Komado.
