How Much Usable Storage Space Is On The Playstation 5

With the release of next-gen consoles drawing closer, one of the aspects fans are most curious about is the storage space of the two consoles. While the PlayStation 5 has an 825GB SSD as opposed to the Xbox Series X’s 1TB SSD, it’s the usable storage space which is the point of debate for quite a while now.

While the usable storage space for Xbox Series X was revealed to be around 802GB for storing games after taking into account the 128GB for OS, there is little known about the PlayStation 5’s storage space. However, a leak suggests that it could be significantly lower than expected.

ResetEra user Kenzodielocke posted a few images of the PlayStation 5’s OS which show around 660GB of usable space. This is after taking into account the OS and Astro’s Playroom, the game which will come preloaded with the PlayStation 5. If we take out Astro’s Playroom from the equation, we are left with 664GB of storage space.

This is significantly lower than what was expected since many prominent sources had suggested that the PS5’s OS is pretty light and would consume only around 20GB of system space. In the above leak, however, the OS is consuming almost 104GB of storage space. While that is still lower than Xbox Series X, it does make the overall usable space significantly lower considering the PlayStation 5 has smaller storage space to begin with.

Keep in mind that all this is just not yet confirmed, so take it with a grain of salt. We will update this guide when Sony provides an update on this.
