One of the most significant features in Terraria is the array of NPCs that provide items, services, and game-advancing events. Naturally, many players are curious to know how many NPCs are available, so they know when to stop recruiting new townsfolk. The simple answer to this is: there are 29 NPCs available in the game. However, because some NPCs are available to specific platforms and some NPCs have different things to offer, we’ve gone into further detail below.

The list below provides all the NPCs. Any NPC listed that doesn’t specify the platforms on which it is available is available on all platforms.

Special NPCs

The lists below outline NPCs that are only accessible in specific situations or for a limited amount of time.

Hardmode NPCs

Hardmode NPCs are only available once the player has reached the Hardmode version of the game, after defeating the Wall of Flesh. There are eight Hardmode NPCs.

The NPCs listed below are not available to move into town. The one exception is the Old Man, who technically moves into town, but as the Clothier.
