Gears Tactics takes the brutal world of the Gears series and mixes it up, turning it into an isometric, tactical strategy game. If it sounds a little awkward, have no fear, as it is executed incredibly well by developers Splash Damage and The Coalition.

This is more than a simple mishmash of elements, as Gears Tactics feels like a proper Gears game in every way. The mechanics of the traditional tactics game have been delicately altered to match up with the visceral feel of combat from the Gears games, and it really is a treat to play.

If you are interested in the game, you might be wondering how long it is. While this will largely depend on the type of player you are and the difficulty setting, we would estimate that if you like to test yourself somewhat, the game should take 25 to 30 hours to complete. If you want to just waltz through the campaign on an easy difficulty setting, it will take less time, and if you like to play on a difficulty level where every mistake is punished, it would take longer.

As for replayability, when you have finished the campaign, you can either challenge yourself with a higher difficulty setting or perhaps play the Veteran Mode. Veteran mode missions are quite difficult but have some strong rewards for players who can complete them. There is no story in these missions; you simply take on the challenge they present and hope you can get the better of them.

Don’t forget, if you have Xbox Box Game Pass, you can download Gears Tactics for free.
