The latest From Software project Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is coming out later this year. This game is said to be a major departure for the series, in not only ways you level up but this is the first time From Software is working on a set protagonist instead of letting you customize your character. Though some fans who are accustomed to the way the devs have done there games in the past will not be so happy to hear that.

Some changes to the formula include its experience system. In Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, the way you earn XP is much like your typical RPG. Once you kill an enemy, you get experience points and gold. This differs from other Souls‘ games where if you die (or when you die), you don’t lose anything. This might make longtime fans of From Software think this is making the game accessible and easy for casuals so that they may want to jump in. The director of the game, Hidetaka Miyazaki didn’t reveal any details but he has said that death will have a significant effect.

The progression system is supposedly designed to be slow but fair. The way it works is that you gain experience through fighting and as you accumulate XP you will gain a skill point. Once you get a skill point you will spend skill points at a skill tree which is located at any sculptors idols. Those are the games Bonfire system. at the skill tree, you will spend points into three categories; the shinobi arts is used for controlling crowds with devesting slice attacks, samurai arts is your normal warrior type, and upgrades to your prosthetic arm gives you different ways of approaching enemies. Also, you can unlock special moves called combat arts which are activated by pressing both shoulder buttons. which is designed to give you agency over your characters play style.

Also, the game prayer bread to improve your overall health is much like the heart system in Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

From Software wanted to focus on one well equip character instead of a verity of builds. this is to focus on the depth of individual encounters. Hidetaka Miyazaki had this to say about the project:

What do you think of all of this? Are you excited for Sekiro? Sekiro: Shadow Die Twice releases on March 22nd.
