What are the Classes and Races in New World

There’s a short answer to whether there are classes and races in New World: There are not. New World is non-traditional for an MMO in that there are no rigid classes and no different races to choose from. Instead, every player is a human stranded on the eponymous New World.

However, instead of classes, players level up their Core Attributes, which help work out their character. So if you want to be a melee fighter, you might level up Strength. Or if ranged weapons are more your thing, then Dexterity. This means the differences are minimal at the start of the game, but characters will find their niche as you level up.

Additionally, while there are no classes in the game, as you level up your weapon skills, you’ll be able to start to use abilities. These abilities will determine how your character plays, and so you can begin to fill roles like ‘Tank’ or ‘Ranged DPS’ with these options.

What weapon you choose to level affects this. But as you can switch weapons, swap abilities, and respec, this isn’t set in stone.

What Customization Options Are There In New World

When you make your character in New World, you’ll get a bunch of customization options for your appearance. These include changing your face, body type, skin tone, hairstyle, facial hair, eye color, features (such as freckles), scars, and tattoos.

You can modify most of these with a wide selection of colors, so you can create a serious-looking, scar-faced warrior, or a colorful-haired character that demands attention. Beyond this, the in-game options for gear and weapon choice are your go-to for customization.
