Marvel’s Moon Knight’s most recent outing sees the vigilante setting up operations out of the House of Shadows. Yes, the very same haunted house that has plagued Doctor Strange for years. However, where Strange aimed to stop the otherworldly building, Marvel has teamed Marc Spector up with it. This twist could have significant ramifications for both the Marvel comic universe and its film counterpart.

How Did Moon Knight End Up in The House of Shadows?

Warning: Spoilers for Marvel’s Moon Knight #9

Moon Knight #9 kicks off with the vigilante trapped in the sentient home. He was led here by his search for several individuals that had suddenly disappeared. Realizing the house was the culprit, the Knight forced his way out to form a plan. Once spat out, Spector quickly formed a proposition for the sentient building.

Feeling a sense of kinship with the House of Shadows, Moon Knight returned with an offer. Moon Knight offers the haunted house a purpose in exchange for releasing the people. The hero would use the house for his Midnight Mission after recently losing his other one. Surprisingly, the house agreed, and a new partnership was formed.

What Exactly Is the House of Shadows?

As mentioned before, the House of Shadows is most known as a foe to the Sorcerer Supreme. Created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko, the character debuted in Strange Tales #120. While it first appeared to be a haunted house, under the surface was much more. As Strange discovered, it was an otherworldly construct. It was on Earth to observe and trap the occasional wandering human in Limbo.

Moon Knight’s use of the being as an actual house is an interesting take on the character. Although not a surprising move in the Marvel Universe. As CBR notes, this partnership is likened to the X-Men’s use of Krakoa. Krakoa is a sentient island that the mutants inhabit. The two have developed a symbiotic relationship that works well.

What Does This Mean for The Future?

While Marvel is no stranger to modernizing old comic characters and giving them a new purpose. It seems too much of a coincidence for the House of Shadows to show up now, especially as Marvel prepares for Strange’s next film outing to the Multiverse of Madness. Not to mention Moon Knight’s upcoming live-action debut.

With Doctor Strange’s next film, the sorcerer will be messing with multiverses. It would be easy for Marvel to introduce the sentient house as Strange messes with other dimensions, especially considering that the trailer shows off a building that looks like a haunted house.

Whether or not this comic storyline is hinting at future MCU plots is unknown. Even if it isn’t, seeing how Marvel’s Moon Knight and the House of Shadows work together will sure be interesting.
