IO Interactive might’ve just finished their works on the new Hitman trilogy, but now having the James Bond IP in their hand, they could set their sight on a completely new series. According to the Denmark-based news portal DR.dk (via TheGamer), the developer is already “in full swing” working on a James Bond game for PC and consoles, complete with an original story.

In the interview, IO Interactive’s director Hakan Abrak said that his team has been allowed to make “their own” Bond and doesn’t have to tie it on to any previous and/or upcoming movies. The original story that the company has written can also easily expand into a trilogy, if necessary.

Abrak also revealed that getting the license from film company MGM and the production company EON Productions was not an easy task. The very first step, though, he and his team needed to get permission from the Broccoli family, the British family behind EON, who holds a tight rein on Bond’s leash. Especially when back in the 2000s, the matriarch Barbara Broccoli allegedly swore never to let anyone make a video game based on the British agent anymore. Abrak added.

At the beginning of their meeting, Barbara was said to have a “very expressionless face” regarding the project. However, Abrak managed to convince her how their experience with Hitman and their original vision will translate to a proper James Bond game. And the further into the meeting, she started smiling. Younger members of the family even “lit up” seeing her positive reaction. A culmination of two years of effort just to meet Broccoli and EON end up as a smashing success for the Danish-based developer.
