After the critically-panned and commercial failure of 2016’s Justice League, many thought it was curtains for Henry Cavill’s Man of Steel.
The Man of Steel sequel was thrown off the table as Warner Bros. reworked their priorities for the DCEU and a strange, puzzling video on Henry Cavill’s Instagram account did little to confirm or deny rumors that he would no longer wear the famous red cape.
But alas, the time has passed and, if a recent report by Deadline is to be believed, then the 37-year-old British actor could well be suiting up once again. He is currently in talks to reprise his role as Superman in future movies. And though it won’t be Man of Steel 2, it could well be one of the work-in-progress DC films in the far future.
While The Suicide Squad and Wonder Woman 1984 have been completed, making a Superman appearance unlikely, this still leaves room for Shazam 2, Black Adam, and The Batman. The aforementioned movies have yet to be finished and will resume after the Coronavirus restrictions have eased a little more.
The last DCEU film to use Superman was 2019’s Shazam. However, Cavill did not reprise the role for this ending cameo, with Zachary Levi’s (who plays Shazam himself) stunt double, Ryan Handley, instead of playing the hero. Since we never see Superman’s face in the cameo scene, however, continuity is still preserved.

The movie will feature previously-unseen footage shot by Snyder before Joss Whedon took over the director’s chair, with extra scenes featuring Cavill among it.
