Saturday Night Live is one of the longest running late-night comedy series to ever air on NBC or any other network. Over the decades, a number of writers and performers have come and gone. In many ways, it is the nature of the series. According to a new report on Deadline, a head writer for SNL, Anna Drezen, is set to leave the series. Anna Drezen was originally hired on to SNL back in 2016. She was recently named one of the head writers for SNL back in September of 2020. Now, a little over a year later, Drezen is reportedly leaving the late-night series to instead focus on the upcoming Praise Petey, an animated comedy for Freeform. This new series is set to star Annie Murphy, John Cho, and Christine Baranski.

Drezen shared the news of her departure from SNL on Instagram, stating:

The loss of Anna Drezen is not ideal for Saturday Night Live. In its most recent episode, the series was forced to grapple with rising COVID cases in New York. Because of this, the final episode for 2021 did not have an in-person studio audience or a musical guest. In situations like these, good writers are necessary to help fill time. Fortunately, Tom Hanks and former SNL cast member and head writer Tina Fey were there to help the host, Paul Rudd, keep the episode as entertaining as possible.
