Users on Reddit have pointed out a change in HBO’s adaptation of Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us. An addition to the cast of the series teases a new form of infection that the live-action Joel and Ellie might have to face. As the cast list for the show gets longer, many have pointed out the additional role called “Infected Man Stage 5.” This role will be played by Connor Stanhope.

This addition could show a new kind of infection within The Last of Us universe (most likely one that was not seen in the game). As explained in the first game, there are four stages of infection: runners, stalkers, clickers, and bloaters. Each stage is an evolution of the previous one, which implies that “Stage 5” could be even more dangerous than the terrifying “bloaters.” It has also been considered that these were the “shamblers” introduced in The Last of Us Part II. However, “shamblers” are an alternative to “bloaters” rather than another step in the evolution chain.

The Last of Us: Art on the Big Screen

HBO’s The Last of Us is an upcoming TV series based upon the award-winning game from Naughty Dog studios. Like the game, the series will follow Joel Miller and Ellie Williams as they journey across America and fight those infected by a viral fungal infection. Filming has already begun for the series, and the release date can be expected sometime in 2023. However, no release timeline or date has been confirmed at the time of this writing.

The series holds a very promising cast, with Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey playing the two lead roles. Other additions to the cast include Anna Torv, Nick Offerman, and Merle Dandridge. The first season will be comprised of ten episodes and will adapt the events from the first game.
