After only one season, HBO’s Lovecraft Country has been cancelled.
‘We will not be moving forward with a second season of Lovecraft Country,” HBO said in a statement to Deadline. “We are grateful for the dedication and artistry of the gifted cast and crew, and to Misha Green, who crafted this groundbreaking series. And to the fans, thank you for joining us on this journey.”
Debuting in the summer of 2020, HBO’s Lovecraft Country quickly grew in popularity due to strong word of mouth. The cancellation is due to a lack of content since the show is based off a solo novel by Matt Ruff. Despite this, showrunner Misha Green stated that they were in talks for a second season last October.
She stated that the second season would “[carry] on the spirit of Matt Ruff’s novel by continuing to reclaim the genre storytelling space that people of color have typically been left out of.”
The first season of Lovecraft Country can be streamed in its entirety on HBO Max, and Matt Ruff’s novel of the same name is also available.
