HBO Concludes ‘His Dark Materials’ With Season 3

His Dark Materials premiered on HBO in 2019. The second season aired in 2020. Fans have been waiting for His Dark Materials season three ever since. As was the case with many projects, the series had to stall filming and production in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic. This series was the second attempt at adapting Pullman’s trilogy after the failure of 2007’s The Golden Compass, a failure which Den of Geek attributes to the watering down of the anti-religious elements of the source material.

HBO’s adaptation of His Dark Materials has clearly performed better, which Comic Book Resource attributes to taking a darker approach than the 2007 film and for not shying away from the themes Pullman was exploring in his novels. While the 2007 film’s failure put an immediate end to the film adaptations, viewers have seen Pullman’s entire story come to life on screen with this successful series. They will soon see that story conclude when His Dark Materials season three premieres on HBO on December 5th.
