A new trailer from HBO Max teases all of the new content we can expect from the streaming service, and it gives us our first look at footage from The Last of Us, the highly anticipated adaptation of the acclaimed 2013 video game. Kotaku explains that the footage is quite short, only mostly highlighting a conversation between Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey). However, we also get footage featuring guns, a stressed-looking Bill (Nick Offerman), and an infected spore growing on a wall. This television adaptation of The Last of Us was announced for HBO in March 2020, and after two years of eager anticipation, HBO Max has delivered a taste of what we can expect.

‘The Last of Us’ Footage Features Suspense and Heartbreak

In this footage from The Last of Us, we hear Ellie say to Joel, “Everybody I’ve cared for has either died or left me.” Joel responds, “You have no idea what loss is.” In the middle of this conversation, we see footage of Joel running with his daughter Sarah. In the popular game being remade, the story opens with Joel holding Sarah as they flee from the chaos of a mutant outbreak. During that run, Sarah is shot by a soldier and dies in Joel’s arms. This breaks Joel and hardens him. However, once he takes on the task of protecting Ellie, who is immune to the mutation, he develops a parental bond with her. Their story of survival in a post-apocalyptic world captivated gamers, earned multiple Game of the Year awards, and got a sequel in 2020. Viewers will soon be able to experience this story as a live-action series when The Last of Us premieres on HBO in 2023.

In addition to The Last of Us, viewers of the HBO Max trailer got a look at other upcoming new shows and new seasons of existing shows. Such shows include The Idol, Love and Death, Succession, The White Lotus, And Just Like That, Hacks, The White House Plumbers, Our Flag Means Death and the final season of His Dark Materials.
