In preparation for the release of its upcoming streaming service HBO Max, parent company HBO has announced a partnership with the anime streaming giant Crunchyroll. The partnership between these two companies will see HBO Max launch with 17 different anime inclusions to its library. Notable titles will feature the classic anime hits Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Kill La Kill, Re:Zero – Starting Life in Another World, and Your Lie in April. On top of the immediate inclusions, Crunchyroll will additionally curate and offer new anime titles every quarter, with the releases Death Note and Hunter X Hunter already scheduled for a release within the first year.
Crunchyroll has demonstrated that anime undoubtedly has a future in the streaming marketplace, and a partnership between the two companies will no doubt make HBO Max a more enticing streaming service. Especially as subscribers will now have a single place to watch both classic HBO shows, such as Game of Thrones and an increasing selection of anime greats. Adding new content to its library will also serve to diversify the platform, giving members the option of content that they might not have considered before. HBO Max will launch on May 27th at a price point of (USD)$14.99 per month. The new stand-alone streaming platform will feature a range of classic TV shows, blockbuster movies, Max originals, and every episode of every HBO series. Members of standalone versions of HBO Now will be able to switch over to Max upon release with no extra cost. Some of its features will include downloading content for offline viewing while you’re on the go, parental control to keep kids safe, and user-created profiles to tailor shows to your needs.
