Couch cooperative games have become a true rarity in modern gaming. What was a staple of titles in the past has become an old piece of gaming history. While this trend has garnered more attention in recent years, it wasn’t always that way. Cuphead, Overcooked, Rayman Legends, and even Castle Crashers laid the groundwork for modern co-op play. While multiplayer has maintained a consistent presence, the magic of couch co-op faded. Playing with someone right next to you appealed less as the internet brought everyone together. Despite this, many games have tried to capitalize on gameplay like this by making unique experiences around it. Hazelight Studios took that concept and compounded it with A Way Out which blended two stories acting out simultaneously for each player. 3 years later, Hazelight experiments again with It Takes Two, quickly becoming one of the best couch co-op games in recent memory. Almost 1 year since its release, Hazelight Studios has confirmed that over 5 million copies have been sold of It Takes Two.

5… that’s FIVE million copies of #ItTakesTwo sold! ???

Our team is absolutely stunned just thinking about how many players have now enjoyed our game! ?

Is Hazelight Studios Including EA Play or Game Pass Subscribers?

Despite being discounted for almost a year, It Takes Two continues to show up in the competition. After a staggering win at The Game Awards last year, Hazelight Studios has created a uniquely memorable co-op experience. Unlike contenders in the past, the accessibility and ease of play opened many doors to Hazelight. Capitalizing on that format only allowed them to create widely enjoyable, wholesome experiences for a variety of audiences. While the title has been available on EA Play, and by extension Xbox Game Pass, the game has been available for a while in many forms. Hitting a milestone like this is unique, and it is a wonder where the studio will go next.
