Back in 2013 when the Xbox One was first revealed, Microsoft announced that legendary director Steven Spielberg would be developing a television series based on Halo. Four years have passed and many believed that the project was stuck in development hell or just quietly cancelled altogether. As it turns out, Microsoft is still moving ahead with the project.

In a statement provided to AR12Gaming, Microsoft confirmed that development is continuing in partnership with Showtime, and Spielberg is still attached.

“Progress on the Halo Television Series continues,” a Microsoft Spokesperson and representative of 343 Industries said. “We want to ensure we’re doing this the right way together with a team of creative partners (Steven Spielberg and Showtime) that can help us build the best Halo series that fans expect and deserve. We have no further details to share at this time.”

There are already a couple of live-action Halo series such as Forward Unto Dawn and Nightfall, the latter of which was executive produced by Ridley Scott, but nothing like the scale that Spielberg’s series aims to be. Microsoft plans to deliver an exceptional product, and they’ve surely learned a thing or two by now from other projects, but it’s yet to be seen if the company can follow through on it.
