Halo: Reach will be included as well.

At long last, Microsoft finally confirmed what we all knew was coming. During the hyped Inside Xbox show today, the company confirmed that Halo: The Master Chief Collection will in fact be coming to PC. The bigger surprise however was that in addition to being released on their Microsoft Store, the game will also be launching on Steam, the biggest PC Gaming distribution retailer on the market. Microsoft allowing Valve to publish their treasured IP is without a doubt a unique circumstance in and of itself, making this announcement that much more exciting.

The PC version of the game will be released in a single format, rather than all of them in one shot. 343 Industries reasoning behind this was so that they could ensure that each game was done “right.” That way they don’t suffer the same way that the bundle originally came out back in 2014 for the Xbox One. Each game will be released in chronological order, so if you decided to play them as they’re released, you’d be going through the entire Halo story line.

Speaking of which, 343 also had another bombshell of an announcement for us, Halo: Reach is finally being brought into the Master Chief Collection. On top of that, Reach will also be ported to the PC, and because the game’s story is the first in the series, that means it will be the first Halo game to launch on Steam. For some fans of the franchise, having Reach in the bundle has a special meaning for them. Not only is it the last Halo game to be developed by the original creators, Bungie, but it is also considered by some to be the best game in the series.

Neither pricing nor release dates were given during the show, but it’s easily one of the best announcements of the year so far. Steam has wasted no time in launching the games page either, which you can check out here. It’s almost surreal to see Master Chief showcased on the Steam game library. More information will be given during the SXSW convention during the Halo Championship Series Invitational, but for now we can all breath out a sigh of relief as our dream has come true at last.
