According to a new, interesting and looking pretty reliable rumor, Microsoft is going to reveal a new Halo game, called Halo Infinity, later this week at its Xbox E3 2018 media briefing.

The rumor comes from Brad Sams, executive editor at Thurrott(dot)com, a well-known blog always quite informed about what Microsoft is cooking both in terms of tech and Windows, although he doesn’t precise the source of it.

“A new Halo game at e3, possibly called Halo Infinity,” he said in a tweet, further precising in a second one shared a few moments later that “obv, things could change here but that’s the word the street.”

So, looking at it, it’s just a name and nothing more, and this is the main reason why he says that things could still change in the time between his tweet and the proper reveal at E3 2018 later this week.

Infinity is the UNSC ship featured, with a pivotal role in terms of story, in Halo 4 and Halo 5, but also the place where the multiplayer modes take place in the fictional universe of the second trilogy.

The fact that the title is apparently lacking seems to suggest it might be some sort of spin-off or entry fully dedicated to the multiplayer, or to some specific multiplayer mode.

It seems a bit harder to guess that it could represent the beginning of a new trilogy. VG247 website points out it could mean that a Destiny-like game could be on its way, with a rush of content being released on a steady pace and expansions dropping each trimester.

Even though the ending of Halo 5: Guardians looked like opening something different for the franchise in terms of story, we guess 343 Industries wants to end that arc before going all in with something new from that perspective.
