There’s still no word on when to expect the game though.

The reveal of Halo Infinite back at E3 2018 was a bit confusing considering the name that Microsoft chose to slap on the game.  Well that confusion has been cleared up by 343 Industries.

The developers have come out to clarify that Halo: Infinite is Halo 6.  It’s a direct sequel to Halo 5, and that the game will be the next chapter in the Master Chief saga.

According to 343’s Jeff Easterling who revealed the details during a Mixer Stream.  “It’s Halo 6,” says the developer.  “Don’t think of it as a weird prequel kind of thing. It’s the next story. It’s the next chapter in what is going on.”

Halo Infinite will most certainly be focusing on Master Chief this time around.  When the game was announced back in June, 343 Industries made it abundantly clear that they’d heard the complaints that players didn’t get to spend enough time playing with the franchise’s main character.  Instead, time was split between Master Chief and Spartan Locke.

Easterling’s clarification is welcome, but 343 has been pretty much saying this all along.  A post on the Waypoint Blog announcing Halo Infinite already laid bare the fact that this game would be a direct follow-up to the event in Halo 5: Guardians.  “In Halo Infinite, the game will focus on the Master Chief and continue his saga after the events of Halo 5,” reads a post from June.

There’s still no telling when Halo Infinite will arrive.  343’s reveal wasn’t much more than a glorified tech demo that showcased the new Slipstream Engine that they are building alongside the game.  Our money is on fall 2019, but it could very well be later considering the new engine.
