Tovarus and Hyperius, Banished War Chief Escharum’s so-called “Spartan Killers” duet, in the “Pelican Down” level, is arguably the most challenging boss fight in Halo Infinite. It’s no wonder that many players, especially ones who play in the Legendary difficulty, are stumped since they have to deal with the combined might of Tovarus and Hyperious in one arena. This strategy should help you take down the Spartan Killers and finish Halo Infinite “Pelican Down” level.

1. Focus on Hyperius First

Hyperius is the one driving around the waterway-carved paths and through the shipwreck in a Brute Chopper. To destroy his Brute Chopper, utilize the surrounding Coils or get a Rocket Launcher from the ridge on the cliffside of the northeastern part of the arena. If you’re feeling a bit bold (or playing in lower difficulties), you could also try to hijack the Brute Chopper with the Grappleshot and use it to kill surrounding enemies as well as deal massive damage to Hyperius. There is a Grunt driving a Ghost, too that you can hijack and can be very useful if you’re familiar with circle strafing tactics.

Once the Brute Chopper is no more, he will fight on foot using the Ravager heavy weapon. Although he can fire volleys of firey Plasma from a distance, Hyperius can also close the distance by using a jet pack and melee you. You can dodge it using the Thruster or shooting the grapple hook on him while he’s in midair; it’s a risky trick, but if you’re successful, this will bump you off from him without taking any damage.

Keep in mind that if you leave the boss arena, all the damage that Hyperius and Tovarus took will be reset. If the bosses that were chasing you suddenly back out and walk away, it means you’re out. However, any damage that the Brute Chopper sustained doesn’t get reset! And if it’s destroyed, it also shouldn’t come back. This means you can just chip the Brute Chopper slowly while running away and going back in. Plus, usually, when you’re nearing the arena’s edge, you’ll trigger a checkpoint. Remember this strategy if taking down the vehicle seems too tough for you.

2. Lure Hyperius to the West Side of the Arena

Be patient and drain Hyperius’s shield by plinking him with Pulse Carbine or Sentinel Beam from a distance while luring him to the west side of the boss arena. The western part is surrounded by rocks and treelines that will serve as cover from his Ravager. Ravager is a pretty dangerous weapon since it shoots at an arc, and the residues of the shots will stay on the ground for a couple of seconds and eat your shield fast. Many types of weapons are scattered all over the arena, so don’t forget to scan the area while moving from cover to cover; you might find something really helpful.

Once Hyperius’s shield is gone, switch to your primary weapon. While precision weapons like a Battle Rifle or Commando can help deal headshot damages, you can find power weapons as well, such as Ravager near the feet of dead Brutes.

3. Deal With the Reinforcements as Soon as You Can

After you killed Hyperius (or any one of them is dead), a Banished reinforcement will be dropped in. Take them out as quickly as you can before chasing Tovarus since the damage that they deal does add up. You don’t want to be chased by a bunch of Grunts and out of shield when facing the other boss. As seen above, unchecked cannon fodders can prove to be fatal in Halo Infinite, let alone in a dual boss fight like Tovarus and Hyperius.

4. Keep Your Distance When Facing Off Against Tovarus

Tovarus is the one leaping around on platforms. Equipped with a Scrap Cannon, that while extremely dangerous in close range, also has less accuracy the further you’re away from him.

Just like before, use a Sentinel Beam or any Plasma weapon to drain Tovarus’s shield. Use the Drop Shield if you need cover. At some point, he will run away to the broken ship on the eastern side of the arena and show up on a platform located on the west side. Follow him, and you should find a Rocket Launcher and Hydra in a room on one of the platforms, scan your surroundings if you miss it. Continue dealing damage to his shield.

Once you broke his shield, switch to Kinetic ranged weapons like a Sniper Rifle, Hydra, or Skewer (I always have trouble using it though) while he’s on the second platform. Afterward, lure Tovarus to the room you previously entered. Dish out the Rocket Launcher and just spam every grenade you can find to kill him. The place should be small enough that any splash damage can deal decent damage. Back out, let Tovarus pass, and repeat the process again if he’s still not dead yet.

And that’s how you deal with Halo Infinite Tovarus and Hyperius bosses! Continue onwards to the Pelican and rendezvous with the Pilot to finish the “Pelican Down” mission in Halo Infinite.

Halo Infinite is now available on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
