Gwendoline Christie, best known for her roles in Game of Thrones and Star Wars, is joining Wednesday, the upcoming series from Tim Burton coming to Netflix. Wednesday is a new series that will focus on Wednesday Addams, the daughter of the Addams Family, and her experiences at Nevermore Academy. The official synopsis for Wednesday states:
According to Collider, Christie will be playing Larissa Weems, “principal of the supernatural school Nevermore Academy, who holds a long-time grudge against her former classmate Morticia Addams (Catherine Zeta-Jones).”
Along with Gwendoline Christie and Jones, Jenna Ortega has been cast in the main role of Tim Burton’s Wednesday series. Ortega has seen plenty of recent success in other Netflix projects including You and Yes Day. Other noteworthy castings include Luis Guzman as Gomez Addams, Issac Ordonez as Wednesday’s brother Puggsley, Victor Dorobantu as Thing, George Burcea as Lurch, and Tommie Earl Jenkins as Mayor Walker
Additional casting includes Thora Birch, Georgie Farmer, Hunter Doohan, Riki Lindhome, Jamie McShane, Iman Marson, William Houston, Luyanda Unati Lewis-Nyawo, Oliver Watson, Calum Ross, and Johnna Dias Watson.
Christie is also joining another big Netflix franchise in the service’s TV adaptation of The Sandman, based on the DC comics series. Christie will play Lucifer, the ruler of the underworld.
Burton is serving as director and executive producer on the series with Miles Millar and Al Gough as showrunners and EP’s. The series will consist of eight episodes, however, it doesn’t have a planned release date as of yet. The Addams Family franchise will be coming back to theaters and on paid VOD on Oct. 1st with The Addams Family 2, the sequel to the animated film from 2019.
