As far as roguelikes go, you of course have the household names. Hades, Enter the Gungeon, Risk of Rain 2, all of those providing very fun and refined experiences that are hard to pass up. There’s a lot more in the lesser-known space as well, just as deserving of your attention and praise. While I won’t ever shut up about ScourgeBringer, one other hidden gem seriously catches my eye. That game is Gunfire Reborn, from Hong Kong developer Duoyi Interactive Entertainment. This game offers hours of fun gameplay all wrapped into a satisfying gameplay loop. Even though the game hasn’t gotten as much attention, that doesn’t mean there aren’t plenty of fans. In fact, today the team has announced that Gunfire Reborn has sold one million copies on Steam!
This is a huge milestone for any indie developer, one that is well deserved for the team at Duoyi. They had this to say as a thank you to the community through their Steam blog post:
While Gunfire Reborn has already seen immense success, the developer is showing no sign of stopping. As you can see in the roadmap above, there will be three more massive updates before the game officially launches in the Fall. These will bring all your expected additions like weapons, heroes, bosses, and more, but some interesting additions as well. Particularly, I’m looking at Talent 2.0 and a Campaign being added. If a Campaign means what I think it means, that’s rather unusual for a roguelike of this style. The only other game I know of to do it is Hades, so I’m glad to see they’re bringing it in here. I’m also excited to see how they revamp the Talent system since there are a few great improvements I could think of.
