Are you ready to become the next legend in the fighting game community? What better game to do it on than the upcoming title by BlazBlue creators, Arc System Works? Recently, the developers have released a new trailer to showcase Guilty Gear: Strive’s various modes and features. Additional information and screenshots were also released to provide more insight on Story Mode, Gallery Mode, and, of course, the online experience.

Guilty Gear: Strive was first announced during EVO 2019 and is set to release on April 9 (depending on edition). It will be available on PlayStation 4, 5, and PC.

Guilty Gear: Strive – Details

Battle System

  • Roman Cancel

The Roman Cancel sends a shockwave that slows down your opponent’s moves. You can use it to string attacks together or use it as a defensive option to keep your opponent at bay. It is certainly a feature that will need to be considered when figuring out a winning strategy.

  • Wall Break

In a 2D fighting game, you never want to be cornered at the edge of the screen. In Guilty Gear: Strive, you will be given the opportunity to unleash a special attack that will send your opponent through the wall and into a new stage. This will inflict additional damage and increase your character’s stats temporarily.

Offline Modes

  • Story Mode

“The story of Guilty Gear finally reaches its climax!” For fans that have stuck with the series for 20 years, this one’s for you. The story continues with “evolved direction” and, of course, improved graphics. What will Sol Badguy’s final choice be?

  • GG World

Even the most hardcore Guilty Gear followers can’t possibly remember 20 years’ worth of gaming history. GG World is an encyclopedia that can show you the series’ history, character profiles, and even a “Correlation Map” that outlines the relationships between each character.

  • Gallery Mode

Guilty Gear: Strive has beautiful anime-style visuals. In this mode, you can view illustrations, development materials as well as songs and trailers from previous games.

Online Mode

  • Rollback Netcode

Rollback netcode allows you to have a smooth online experience regardless of the distance between you and your opponent. Fight opponents from all over the world until you find one that is worthy of your fighting skills.

  • Online Lobby

The online lobby assigns you to a floor that suits your skill level. In this game, skill level isn’t just based on W’s and L’s, it is based on your actions during matches! The “Heaven” floor is the top of the top and is reserved for players who consistently perform at a high level.

Guilty Gear: Strive also features a Quick Start option which will allow you to enter a match immediately.

In addition, you can customize your avatar as well as interact with other players through emotes and chat.

  • Player Match

Nine players can enter a Player Match room and enjoy battles with friends.

A Fighting Game Cornerstone

This hit series is known for its rocking soundtrack and beautiful anime-inspired visuals. Guilty Gear games did not make a competitive appearance in EVO 2019 nor in the canceled EVO 2020 event. However, it has a long history with the tournament and it is very possible that we might see Guilty Gear: Strive in future EVOs. Who knows? Maybe Daigo Umehara might even return to playing it competitively.
