Netflix released Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio trailer, giving people a glimpse into The Shape of Water filmmaker’s take on the iconic character. The film will have a fully stacked cast with Ewan McGregor, Tilda Swinton, Cate Blanchett, David Bradley, and Gregory Mann.
The Guillermo del Toro Pinocchio adaption of the Carlo Collodi novel hears a narration from Cricket (McGregor). We get to see Geppetto (Bradley) as he crafts the wooden boy (Gregory Mann). Other characters are featured, like Fairy (Swinton) and Sprezzatura (Blanchett). The film will also star Christoph Waltz, Ron Perlman, Finn Wolfhard, John Turturro, Tim Blake Nelson, and Burn Gorman (The Offer).

The film will be co-directed by the Hellboy director and Mark Gustafson (The PJs). Patrick McHale (Adventure Time) and del Toro will write the film. Oscar-winning composer Alexandre Desplat will score the film, which you can hear in the trailer.
The filmmaker produces with Dave Bogosian, Alexander Buckley, Corey Campodonico, Lisa Henson, Blanca Lista, and Gary Ungar. Jason Lust serves as executive producer.
To not be confused, another Pinocchio movie is releasing this year on Disney Plus. This September, there will be the live-action film—unlike Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio, which will be animated—by Robert Zemeckis (The Witches). It will be written by Simon Farnaby (Paddington 2) and Chris Weitz (Rogue One). The competitor will star Tom Hanks, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Lorraine Bracco (The Sopranos), Luke Evans (Nine Perfect Strangers), Keegan Michael-Key, Cynthia Erivo (The Outsider), and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth (The Haunting of Bly Manor). It will release on September 8.
When directing a feature-length, the filmmaker had a four-year gap between The Shape of Water and last year’s Oscar-nominated film Nightmare Alley. Now, a year later, we are getting the star-studded animated film.
For Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio, it will hit Netflix this December. No specific date was given.
