The workbench in Guardians of the Galaxy is your key to making Star-Lord into the best fighting version of himself and you’ll need components to do that. Although the whole team can be upgraded, only Star-Lord has perks that require the workbench. So, let’s get into how to upgrade Star-Guy with the workbench.
Workbenches in Guardians of the Galaxy
Workbenches can be found throughout the game. There is one on the Milano and there are others spread throughout the levels. Note that you can’t freely travel between the Milano and the levels so when you do find one make sure to upgrade what you need to. Be sure to look out for the workbenches as you play through each chapter. Rocket will normally shout out when he sees one but they do have a tendency to blend in with the rest of the environment.
Once you find a workbench, go up to it and hold Y/Triangle to open it up. Rocket will jump up and you can see all of the perks you have unlocked and the ones that you can craft. Crafting perks in Guardians requires different amounts of basic and advanced components. Essentially, the better the perk the more of each you will need. Once you’ve decided which perk you want to craft simply hover over it and hold A/X.

Where To Find Components
The components are the biggest obstacle to using the workbench in Guardians of the Galaxy. You will find advanced and basic components as you play through the game but they’re few and far between. Look out for small piles of yellow orbs, those are components. They’re usually hidden just out of sight around the levels. To find them more easily, be sure to use Star-Lord’s visor ability frequently. Pressing R3 activates the visor ability and allows you to see highlighted objects around your area. Basic and advanced components will both be glowing yellow.
Guardians of the Galaxy releases on October 26 for Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, Playstation 4, PC, and as a cloud version for the Nintendo Switch.
