Greta Gerwig’s Barbie movie is set to release in theaters exactly one year from today, July 21st, 2023. The release date for the Barbie movie was revealed in April 2022, as Warner Bros. announced during its presentation at CinemaCon in Las Vegas. Major buzz for the film has been increasing as more cast members and pictures from the set have been revealed.
Barbie Movie Photos from Filming
Over the past month, we’ve been blessed with the first images from Greta Gerwig’s very bright live-action Barbie movie. Stills of Margot Robbie(Once Upon A Time In Hollywood) and Ryan Gosling(La La Land) on set have been released, and the internet has been loving them. After Ryan Gosling was announced as Ken and a picture of him as shirtless Ken was released, it spread the web like wildfire.
After we got enough of that pic, stills from filming Barbie in late June were released. The first photo of Ken(Gosling) and Barbie(Robbie) filming near a beach in Southern California with matching neon yellow rollerblades and funky bright-colored outfits. The second set of pictures released shows Barbie in Ken in cowboy/girl outfits.
Greta Gerwig’s ‘Barbie’ Cast
Since the start of 2022, a huge amount of actors have joined the star-studded Barbie cast. Early on in February, Simu Liu(Shang-Chi), Kate McKinnon(Joe vs. Carole), and America Ferrera(Superstore) were announced to have joined the cast. Next was Alexandra Shipp(Tick, Tick… Boom!) in March 2nd, and Will Ferrell(Anchorman) with Issa Rae(Rap Sh!t) in April.
Other cast members include Ariana Greenblatt(65), Michael Cera(Life and Beth), Hari Nef(The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel), Kingsley Ben-Adir(Secret Invasion), and Rhea Perlman(Matilda). Also on the cast list for Barbie are Netflix starlets Emma Mackey (Sex Education), Nicola Coughlan (Bridgerton), Ritu Arya (The Umbrella Academy), and Emerald Fennell(The Crown). The ‘Barbie’ Movie Rumored Plot Details
According to some internet buzz and various sources, the highly unknown Barbie movie plot has maybe been revealed as per some unconfirmed information. The rumors say the Barbie film will center on a doll living in Barbieland who is forced to leave because of her so-called imperfections. In doing so, Barbie and Ken set off on an adventure into the real world and, along the journey, discover that true beauty is found within.
The Barbie movie is both written and directed by Greta Gerwig and co-written with her partner and fellow director Noah Baumbach(Marriage Story).
Barbie is Greta Gerwig’s third time directing a major film after her previous Oscar-nominated films Lady Bird(2017) and Little Women(2019).
No trailer or teaser for the Barbie movie has been released, but when it does, we’ll report it here on The Nerd Stash.
