Back in February, Variety reported that a Gremlins animated series was in the works at WarnerMedia. It seems that plans on this prequel series are moving forward as we now have some more information on the project.
This news once again comes from Variety. The site states that the animated series will officially be titled Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai and will center around a young Mr. Wing in 1920s Shangai. Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai has a 10-episode order (half-hour episodes) at the upcoming and still untitled WarnerMedia streaming service. Tze Chun is set to write and act as the show’s co-executive producer. Darryl Frank (The Americans), Justin Falvey (The Americans), Sam Register (Young Justice), and Brendan Hay (Robot Chicken) will all also act as executive producers on the project as well with Dan Krall (Samurai Jack) set to be the supervising producer for the series.
Here is the show’s first official synopsis:
It remains to be seen if this animated prequel series will be able to draw back in fans of the original Gremlins movie and be one of the bigger projects on the upcoming WarnerMedia streaming service. But, considering how digging up old beloved franchises rarely works out for everyone involved, there’s sure to be a bit of skepticism attached to Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai. At least for now.
