Who doesn’t love free demos that whet our fickle gaming appetites? Slipgate Ironworks recently released a surprise PC demo of their dark fantasy action-adventure game, GRAVEN. The demo was launched as a part of The Game Awards Festival and will be available until December 13, 10:00 am PT, on Steam and GeForce Now. The full version will launch on the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Nintendo Switch, and PC in 2021.
GRAVEN Features
Published by 3D Realms and 1C Entertainment, GRAVEN is touted as a spiritual successor to dark fantasy titles such as Hexen. In the game, players control a “disgraced Priest of the Orthogonal Order” who wields staves, crossbows and utilizes “arcane magics.” Throughout their adventure in this medieval world, players will encounter suffering citizens in need of help, environmental puzzles in need of solving, and, of course, enemies in need of thrashing.
GRAVEN is a blend of “classic shooters, immersive sims, and action RPGs.” The full game will feature the classic split-screen co-op if you want to kick enemy butt with a friend. For those who want the whole squad turning up, there will also be a four-player online mode. At the moment, the demo is solo play only.
Other GRAVEN features include never-before-seen enemies such as Razorfins and Mire Reavers, as well as new mighty weapons like the Flail and Flechant.
“Old-School” Developers
Slipgate Ironworks are industry veterans who have extensive experience with indie and AAA projects. Titles that they have been involved in include Ion Fury, Daymare: 1998, Ancestor’s Legacy, WRATH: Aeon of Ruin, and the recent Ghostrunner.
Evident in the graphical style of GRAVEN, Slipgate Ironworks is “proudly old-school,” stating that they “only work on games [they’d] play [themselves].”
